Words That Count is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Association of Women Mathematicians Uganda (AWoM), marking an important step in our shared commitment to advancing opportunities for women and girls in STEM.
The collaboration brings together two organisations that believe visibility, mentorship, community, and access to opportunity are essential to strengthening the participation and leadership of women and girls in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
AWoM has played an important role in promoting mathematics education, professional growth, and supportive networks for women in the mathematical sciences. Words That Count works to amplify the voices, journeys, research, and leadership of African women in STEM through storytelling, mentorship, science communication, and capacity-building initiatives. Together, this partnership creates a strong foundation for collaboration across shared areas of interest.
The partnership will provide opportunities to support initiatives that encourage girls and women to pursue and thrive in STEM, strengthen mentorship and professional networks, increase the visibility of women mathematicians and researchers, and create spaces for learning, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.
For Words That Count, the partnership reflects a broader belief that meaningful progress in STEM is built through collaboration. No single organisation can address the barriers facing women and girls in STEM alone. When organisations work together, they can combine expertise, expand reach, and create stronger pathways for participation, retention, leadership, and influence.
This collaboration is also closely aligned with our mission to ensure that African women in STEM are visible, valued, connected, and influential. Mathematics remains a foundational discipline across science, technology, engineering, data science, and innovation. Strengthening support for women in mathematics therefore contributes to a stronger and more inclusive STEM ecosystem overall.
